Deepstone Contemporary Low Energy Home by Simon Winstanely Architects Deepstone, Contemporary Low Energy Home by Simon Winstanely Architects

The house is located on a spectacular site overlooking the Solway Firth. The site is a steeply sloping, former quarry in a National Scenic Area. Designed by Simon Winstanely Architects.The house has been future proofed with the following low energy features;

1. The external walls, floor and roof are insulated to a high standard and air infiltration is minimized.
2. Triple glazed windows with warm edge spacer bars, thermally broken frames and inert gas filled to achieve a whole window u-value of 0.7W/m2K.
3. Heat pump using a borehole as the ground source for the underfloor heating and hot water system with a closed combustion wood-burning stove as back up.
4. Micro generation of renewable electricity using roof mounted Photovoltaic Panels.
5. Whole house heat recovery ventilation system.

Leura House Design by James Stockwell Architect

October 17, 2009 By: Category: Green Home Design, Modern House Design

The Leura House is designed by James Stockwell Architect. The materials are limited in number and low embodied energy. The ‘rammed sandstone’ walls are crushed sandstone with 10% cement compacted into forms with chips of iron stone and quartz. The Leura house is sketched out in sedimentary compressed sandstone walls. It uses a Japanese method called ‘discontinuous unity’ brought to light in the 1940’s by Japanese architects Yoshizaka and Sakakura for the incomplete separation of spaces from one another. The house produces its own power and water. 20 PV panels producing .5kw each/day in Leura are installed and a 100,000lt water tank is built under the bedroom wing. The garden and landscape are most important so the journey along the edges of the building permit varying places to experience the mountain valley.

Modern Minimalist Greenhouse Design by Verdickt & Verdickt Architects

September 07, 2009 By: Category: Green Home Design, Modern Home

Modern Minimalist Greenhouse was designed by Verdickt & Verdickt Architects. Shaped and designed like an industry greenhouse, the design architects Verdickt & Verdickt features exposed steel supports, the windows are wide apart and a barn-shaped A-frame configuration of the very visible from the outside . Once inside, however, modern furniture, clean lines and white walls and ceilings contrast with floors and black granite countertops all give this look an elegant and minimalist.

Design principles emissions are increasingly integrated strategies for solar heating, heat from the sun through the windows drawn and then trapped in the expanding super-insulated interior. This particular building emissions also references to his aesthetic inspiration, with glass on all sides selectively reviewed by the inner layers, where confidentiality is desired. [ Via ]
