It may be a small beach house, but this design by Javier Artadi Arquitecto packs quite the contemporary punch into a modest, 2,300 sq. ft. frame. Located in Las Arenas, just south of Lima in Peru, this cool holiday house was designed as a beach-front getaway, and reflects that relaxed sentiment both indoors and out. By blurring the boundary between in and out, the architect afforded this modern beach house its cool and calm appeal. From a simple cube shape, parts of the walls and ceilings were cut away to reveal interiors to the outdoors and maximize on sunlight and the spectacular views. The resulting sun-soaked spaces make you feel like you’re outside, but with the comforts and luxuries of a sheltered space. The main volume houses the living room and is connected to the terrace and indoor/outdoor pool. A separate, small volume is occupied by the home’s private living areas.

Designer Reese Roberts has dived into Casa Finisterra head-first, bringing a fresh, modern style to what may well be the perfect contemporary beach home! This exciting, contemporary design is a paradox – urban, yet organic; elegant and relaxed; open and private all at the same time. It’s everything a luxury beach house should be! Built into the rocky shore, this home has become one with its surroundings. Open-air terraces and expansive windows further solidify its connection to nature. But it’s not all about nature at this amazing home. This stunner boasts modern, minimalist furnishings and abstract art that complement the organic concrete, stone, metal and glass elements within. A neutral palette of white, beige and grey adds to the home’s cool, calm atmosphere.

This futuristic house by Xenian is on display in Sydney, Australia, at a public exhibition for sustainable house design. This environmentally responsible design features modern technologies that trend towards a life of consuming less, wasting less, and relying on alternate forms of energy to create comfort at home. Aptly named the “House of the Future” this modern design was prefabricated – a popular construction method for the eco-conscious requiring less resources and resulting in less site disruption during development. The warm, wooden design boasts low-power LED lighting which gives the home an ultra-modern appeal. Green features include a rainwater harvesting system, passive ventilation, and solar cells embedded in the expansive panes of glass making up the front facade. Outside, a sustainable garden completes the modern residential design.
