September 18, 2013 By: archinhome Category: luxury home design, Modern House Design

This Modern Glass House Design in Johannesburg, designed by Nico Van Der Meulen Architects. Built on 4000 sq.m site, with 2500sq.m total floor area. The frame-less glass folding doors starts at the dining room, and stretches for nearly 70m around the dining room, family room, lanai, indoor pool and gym. The family room is partially double volume, flowing seamlessly into the lanai and heated indoor pool, with a bar, pizza oven, gas and wood braai.

The kitchen leads off the family room and dining room, with a pair of automatic, frameless sandblasted doors leading from the dining room to the kitchen. A breakfast area and playroom are adjacent to the kitchen, allowing the younger kids to be supervised from the kitchen and family room, and allowing direct access to the bar and barbeque area from the kitchen. This Corten House is designed by Studio MK27, located in São Paulo, Brazil.
The front facade is made of Corten weathering steel. The dialogue between the rusty texture on the outside and the stone, wood, white mortar and the glass build the space. In the ground floor, there is ample room with a ceiling height of 5.2m and four folding doors that completely open out to the deck and external fireplace; in the living room, a free wooden volume houses the kitchen and utilities program. The three bedrooms are located in the second floor.

Foskett House, by Max Pritchard Architect

July 02, 2013 By: archinhome Category: Architecture, Home Design

Foskett House was designed by Max Pritchard Architect. The gentle curved form of the house allows it to wrap around the private courtyard, but also to open out to river views to the north. The kitchen extends out to a northern terrace, shaded by deciduous vines and enclosed by a stone planter box. The living areas are orientated to the north to maximize sun for winter heating and large folding doors permit cross ventilation to provide summer cooling. Semi circular courtyard with swimming pool and mature eucalypt, becomes the focus of this organic house of sandstone walls and cedar windows.
