Balhannah House, Design by Max Pritchard Architect. This substantial home is set in a backdrop of large gum trees with views over endless rolling hills of pasture and vineyards. The long thin form facing north maximizes the use of the sun for winter heating. External louvers over the terrace, may be adjusted for summer shade. Photovoltaic cells on the roof generate electricity, and incorporate a unique feature allowing excess heat to be ducted down to the house to aid winter heating. Roof water is collected in a large underground tank, for use throughout the house.Timber, corrugated iron, stone and weathered steel provide a timeless rural quality in a contemporary style.

Sandhill Pavilions, by Max Pritchard Architect

Sandhill Pavilions was designed by Max Pritchard Architect, A unique holiday house of three pavilions linked by timber steps and a covered walkway. The highest pavilion is surrounded by external timber decking and with sea views through the coastal scrub.
The pavilion concept allowed for a more flexible building footprint, minimizing land and vegetation disturbance as well as reinforcing a relaxed holiday atmosphere.

Papatheodorakis House by Max Pritchard Architect

Papatheodorakis House was designed by Max Pritchard Architect. The strong forms of the different elements of the building are reinforced by contrasting colours; red, blue and white. The upper level is at road level and houses the garage, main living area and outdoor terrace. Projecting out as a glass box is the living area maximising the views, but with sun control provided by the retractable and adjustable external aluminium louvres. Both the garage and living area lead on to the large outdoor entertaining area, a terrace with wood oven and enclosed by planter boxes and pergola.

Kirk House in Adelaide foothills, South Australia

Kirk House was designed by Max Pritchard Architect, located in Adelaide foothills, South Australia. The main living area opens back onto this courtyard, but faces north to maximize winter sun and capture distant views of the sea. Raw concrete floors, coloured rendered walls and timber decks reinforce the simple sculptural form. This house curves around a semi circular courtyard, containing the outdoor entertaining area of timber decks and swimming pool, with views over the adjoining nature reserve.

Foskett House, by Max Pritchard Architect

Foskett House was designed by Max Pritchard Architect. The gentle curved form of the house allows it to wrap around the private courtyard, but also to open out to river views to the north. The kitchen extends out to a northern terrace, shaded by deciduous vines and enclosed by a stone planter box. The living areas are orientated to the north to maximize sun for winter heating and large folding doors permit cross ventilation to provide summer cooling. Semi circular courtyard with swimming pool and mature eucalypt, becomes the focus of this organic house of sandstone walls and cedar windows.
