Albert Park Residence by Nicholas Murray Architects

October 27, 2013 By: archinhome Category: contemporary house design

Designed by Nicholas Murray Architects, Juxtaposing heritage materials and form with a post-modern language can be challenging. In this project an honest approach was taken by restoring the front four rooms of an Italianate Victorian double fronted house and returning it to its original splendor. A full width linear pond marks the transition to the modern more informal living spaces which flows onto the garden and lap pool.

Kensington Residence by Nicholas Murray Architects

From Architects : ” An industrial backdrop provides an inspiring location for this refined, full width extension to an existing triple fronted Victorian. The existing house was demolished beyond the front four rooms and a large 15m wide extension spanned nearly the full width of the site. A palm tree placed in the central Castlemaine stone walled courtyard beside a 12m lap pool provokes a sense of oasis and escape from the industrial context. This residence forms part of a larger development that consists of boutique office suites and apartments that were constructed within the grounds of the previous residence and adjoining warehouse. ”

South Melbourne Residence

From Architects : ” This new building was created on a compact infill site in a business zone. This allowed NMA to discard the usual constraints associated with development in residential precincts. The 3-storey residence is built to all boundaries with the living/entertaining areas placed at the highest level to provide occupants with a sense of outlook and ventilation in a built-up area. The floating plywood lined roof is up-lit at night, providing a warm lantern effect that is highly visible from its surrounds. ”
