Ridgewood Residence Design by Assembledge+, Takes Full Advantage of Southern California Climate

December 16, 2013 By: archinhome Category: contemporary house design

Designed by Assembledge+, Ridgewood Residence Located in the Larchmont area of Los Angeles.
Description from Architects :
This 2400 sq ft house takes full advantage of the Southern California climate with a series of areas that exploit the luxury of indoor/outdoor-living. The glass-cornered living room provides a viewing platform, which makes the experience of the space feel as though the occupant is outside. The full-length front porch is reminiscent of the surrounding neighborhood craftsman homes. The cedar siding, smooth white plaster, and-colored MDO panels provide a material palette to complement the refined forms and crisp geometries. The full height sliding glass wall at the rear yard allows the house to be completely opened up providing little distinction between indoor and outdoor.

Island House, Private Summer House in Archipelago of Stockholm by WRB Architects

November 02, 2013 By: archinhome Category: Beach House Design

Island House, Private Summer House

This is private summer house was designed by WRB Architects, the site is a waterfront property located on an island in the Archipelago of Stockholm. The house sits slightly back and elevated from the waterfront, half hidden behind the knotty pine trees. Facing the ocean is a large area for socializing. A floor, a roof and a freely standing core for utilities make up this part of the building. It has an indoor part and an outdoor part, separated only by a sliding glass wall. The sleeping room, storage, and bathroom are gathered in a more closed structure behind the core. They face a secluded courtyard framed by rock formations and the old oak tree.

Openhouse in Hollywood Hills by Xten Architecture

September 07, 2010 By: archinhome Category: Modern House Design

Description from Architect:
The Openhouse is embedded into a narrow and sharply sloping property in the Hollywood Hills, a challenging site that led to the creation of a house that is both integrated into the landscape and open to the city below. Retaining walls are configured to extend the first floor living level into the hillside and to create gardens on two levels. The front, side and rear elevations of the house slide open to erase all boundaries between indoors and out, connecting the spaces to gardens on both levels. [ Xten Architecture ]

Glass, in various renditions, is the primary wall enclosure material. There are forty-four sliding glass panels, each seven feet wide by ten feet high and configured to disappear into hidden pockets and allow for uninterrupted views and access to exterior terraces and gardens. There are also fixed glass walls, mirror glass walls and light gray specular glass panels which lend lightness to the interior spaces.
